The Regional Level 2 Coaching Course for Cycling Coaches concluded on September 19, 2025, at the Field of Dreams in Bugesera, marking another milestone in Rwanda’s growing reputation as a hub for cycling excellence.
Organized by the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) and the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY), in collaboration with the Gasore Serge Foundation and supported by Olympic Solidarity, the course ran from September 11 to 19. It brought together 10 coaches from across Africa for intensive training designed to elevate them from UCI Level 1 to Level 2 certification.
Led by Jean-Jacques Henry and Basile Moreillon , Education Department Manager at the World Cycling Centre (WCC), the program blended theory and practice; covering cornering, braking, and coaching psychology. Henry emphasized the value of adaptability and precision, reminding participants:
“If you check the tires after a race and see flat spots, it means your rider hasn’t mastered braking, which means you need to encourage them to practice more, that’s how mastery is achieved.”
From video analysis to hands-on fieldwork, the course reinforced that mastery is earned on the track, not in theory. Through this initiative, RNOSC and FERWACY continue to professionalize coaching and nurture a new generation of cycling leaders across the region.
