Rwanda Hosts Regional Tennis Coaching Course to Strengthen Africa’s Talent Base

Rwanda continues to position itself as a hub for sports excellence with the successful hosting of the ITF Regional Coaching Advanced Players (CAP) Course); a two-week program aimed at enhancing the continent’s tennis coaching standards.

Held from 6–17 September 2025 at Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club and Eastern Hills Hotel in Kigali, the course was organized by the Rwanda Tennis Federation, in partnership with the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The program brought together 24 coaches from across Africa: 12 from Rwanda and 12 from other regions including East, West, and Southern Africa; under the guidance of ITF-certified facilitators from Rwanda, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.

Over 12 days, participants engaged in intensive theoretical and on-court sessions designed to improve technical, tactical, and analytical skills required for coaching advanced players. The initiative reflects Rwanda’s growing role in professional sports development and the ITF’s broader goal of building a sustainable coaching pipeline across Africa.

At the closing ceremony on September 17, the 24 participants received certificates from ITF and RNOSC. Speakers emphasized that the true value of the program lies not in certification, but in translating new knowledge into stronger player performance and competitive growth across the continent. The Rwanda Tennis Federation president Theoneste Karenzi commended the collaboration with RNOSC and ITF, noting that such initiatives are vital to elevating the quality of tennis in Africa.

With the course concluded, 12 regional and continental coaches now return home equipped to apply modern training techniques; a milestone that underscores Rwanda’s commitment to advancing sports capacity and nurturing talent beyond its borders.
