The Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) through its Medical and Anti-Doping Commission, is  seeking a qualified candidate with a significant experience  in coordinating research projects and administrative skills to take part in a one-year research project, Doping knowledge, attitude and ethical belief among Rwandan athlete support personnel”, funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) through 2022 Social Science Research Grant Program.

Basketball athlete Aristide Mugabe elected new President of the RNOSC Athletes’ Commission

Aristide Mugabe, the longest-serving captain of the National Basketball Team elected new President of the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) Athletes’ Commission. The elections took place during a meeting that brought together athletes representing all RNOSC Members (National Sports Federations), at the RNOSC headquarters, on Sunday, February 12th, 2023.

The following six individuals make up the newly elected committee of the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) Athletes’ Commission

  • President: Aristide Mugabe (Rwanda Basketball Federation)
  • Vice President: Marthe Yankurije, OLY (Rwanda Athletics Federation)
  • Secretary: Yvette Igihozo Cyuzuzo (Rwanda Volleyball Federation)
  • Advisors: Eloi Maniraguha, OLY (Rwanda Swimming Federation), Clarisse Uwayo (Rwanda Taekwondo Federation) & Jean Semana (National Paralympic Committee of Rwanda)

The Acting President of the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee, Mrs. Alice Umulinga, extended her hearty congratulations to the newly elected Committee members and pledged to work closely with them for the betterment of Rwandan athletes. She also expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the outgoing Committee for their tireless dedication and invaluable service during their tenure.

According to the International Olympic Committee, the mission of a National Olympic Committee (NOC) Athletes’ Commission is to represent the views of the athletes and make their voice heard within the NOC.

Alice UMULINGA approved by the General Assembly as the Acting President until the end of the mandate

As one of the resolutions of the Ordinary General Assembly of the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC), that held today on January 22, 2023 at Lemigo Hotel – Kigali, the RNOSC First Vice President Mrs. Alice UMULINGA has been approved as the Acting President until the end of this Olympic quadrennial period following the resignation of Mr. Theo UWAYO in November last year.

In her opening remarks at the General Assembly, the First Vice President said: “2022 was marked by different achievements in sport sector such as workshops, seminars and other sports events like the celebration of both the Olympic Day and Commonwealth Day while the major highlight was the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games where Rwanda finished 4th in Men’s Beach Volleyball and athlete Yves Nimubona finished 5th in Athletics – Men’s 5,000M final.”

“I would also like to thank the Ministry of Sports for its continued collaboration and support,” she added.

During this Annual General Assembly, which convened all members of the RNOSC (National Sports Federations Representatives), various reports including Annual Activities, Financial, External Audit and GMT 2022 reports were presented and approved.

Among other resolutions passed by the RNOSC Ordinary General Assembly:

  • The RNOSC General Assembly appointed Mr. Albert KAYIRANGA as the President of Rwanda National Olympic Academy.
  • The RNOSC General Assembly has approved the following new members: Rwanda Badminton Federation, Rwanda Golf Union and Rwanda Olympians Organization.
  • The RNOSC General Assembly has approved ING Associates as the new External Auditor.
  • The RNOSC General Assembly appointed the new Organizing Committee of the Genocide Memorial Tournament for 2023, consisted of Alexis SHARANGABO OLY, Assia INGABIRE, Jean Baptiste MUREMA, Marc UWIRAGIYE and Assumpta MUKESHIMANA.
