Overview

The Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee is the sole representative of both the Olympic Movement and Commonwealth Games Federation within Rwanda as Rwanda Commonwealth Games Association (RCGA) after The Republic of Rwanda joined the Commonwealth in November 2009 during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad & Tobago, becoming the association’s 54th member.

Rwanda Commonwealth Games Association has its headquarters at the Amahoro National Stadium in Remera, Kigali.

It is also responsible for coordinating international competition and events for its affiliate sport federations in the country.

As a part of its core mission, the RCGA is further dedicated to providing Rwandan youth throughout the country, with a superior learning and athletic experiences through participation of team and individual sports.

Mission

The Rwanda Commonwealth Games Association, through this plan, intends to achieve the following within the framework of its core philosophy of Humanity, Equality and Destiny:

  1. To promote the fundamental principles and values of the CGF, in particular, in the fields of sport and education, by promoting Olympic educational programmes in all levels in the following areas:
  1. National Sport Federations within Rwanda.
  2. Promote sport and physical education in primary and secondary schools, as well as the universities and institutions of higher learning in Rwanda.
  1. Encourage the development of high-performance sport and promote initiatives such as the “Sport for All” programme.
  2. Assist in the training of sports administrators by organizing relevant training and development courses and ensuring such programmes contribute to the propagation of the fundamental principles of the CGF.
  3. Take action against any form of discrimination and violence in sport.
  4. Adopt and implement the World Anti-Doping Code.
  5. Represent the country, with integrity and honour, at the following major competitions and multi-sport events:
  1. The Commonwealth Games and Youth Games
  2. Regional, Continental and International Events
  1. Cooperate with governmental bodies with which the RCGA will achieve harmonious relations. However, it shall not associate itself with any activity which would be in contradiction with the CGF. The RCGA may also works with nongovernmental bodies, world agencies and reputable private sector organizations, to achieve its organizational goals.

  1. Building peaceful, sustainable and prosperous communities globally, by inspiring Commonwealth Athletes to drive the impact and ambition of all Rwanda Citizens through sport.’

  3. The Rwanda Commonwealth Games Association must become a pillar of social, economic and environmental development in Rwanda;
  4. Nationally, it must provide each citizen of Rwanda with the opportunity to engage within his/her community, to live his/her passion, to build his/her capacities, to get a job, and to adopt a healthy lifestyle;
  5. Beyond our borders, sport throughout its international exposure, must continue strengthening the positive image of Rwanda as a reference model;
  6. Every people dedicated to the sport Movement has to play a significant role. Athletes, decision-makers and managers, officials, coaches, parents, partners, all of them must carry on the values of exemplarity, respect, friendship and excellence;
  7. Recognize the achievements of those who make a real difference.
